Welcome and Head of School’s Blog
“Canterbury School does remarkable things for children.”

This was one of the first comments that I heard from a Canterbury parent when I initially came into contact with the school. Perhaps it was the simplicity of this statement that caught my attention. It certainly was the boldness of the statement that generated some degree of skepticism. Having seen this proven true every day for the last few years, I now realize its sincerity.
My experience at Canterbury, as the Head of School, as a teacher, as a coach, and as a parent, demonstrates that our ability to help children achieve the remarkable stems from a few inescapable attributes.
We are a school of incredible teachers. Our staff takes a personal interest in each child’s growth and development.
We are a school of high academic standards. Our teachers prepare our students for the academic challenges of any high school that they may choose to attend.
We are a small school. Our size allows us to know and love every child and to challenge each child to become all that he or she can be.
We are a school that believes in the development of the whole child. Our philosophy acknowledges that it takes more than intellect to succeed in life.
We are a school that is committed to diversity. Our community believes that the multitude of talents and experiences that each individual possesses makes us stronger.
We are a school that recognizes the world beyond ourselves. Our hope is that our students use their talents and their time to make the world a better place.
For these simple reasons, Canterbury provides an unrivaled educational experience for children in PreKindergarten through 8th grade in Greensboro.
I have the distinct pleasure of seeing these attributes manifest themselves in ways both obvious and surprising at Canterbury every day- from the way our students greet one another in the morning to the way our teachers stay late into the evening to address the needs of their students. I feel confident that anyone who spends time on our campus can make the same claim and will leave with an appreciation for all that a school can and should do for its students.
I look forward to seeing you at Canterbury soon.
Very truly yours,
