Capital Campaigns

Capital campaigns come along every so often in the life of schools and are authorized and sanctioned by Canterbury’s Board of Trustees. Because Canterbury is in its early years, the school continues to build the permanent campus and will be engaged in construction projects and comprehensive campaigns to enhance school programs for many years to come. The Campaign for Canterbury, Canterbury’s first campaign was completed in 1999. This campaign successfully funded the school’s start up costs, land acquisition, modular facilities, learning resources, and the school’s first two permanent buildings: Ketner Center and Armfield Hall. The Building On A Sure Foundation campaign, our second campaign, raised in excess of $10 million for the school’s exquisite chapel, bell tower, lower school classroom building, land acquisition, and increased the school’s endowment. This campaign ended on June 30, 2003.

Currently, the school is engaged in its third campaign effort, Ensuring Educational Excellence. In general, this effort will provide $5 million for opportunities that will enhance and ensure the school’s educational excellence. This campaign includes $2.8 million for the construction of a fine arts building, with an additional $2.2 million to increase the school’s endowment. Our campaign was launched in 2005 when the school received an anonymous $1.5 million challenge gift designated towards the fine arts project. To meet the terms of this challenge, Canterbury is committed to raising $1,500,000 prior to December 31, 2006. This makes meeting the challenge a top priority. When the match is met, the school will receive $1,500,000, of which $1,000,000 will be set aside to provide an endowment for the fine arts building.

Summary of the goals of the Ensuring Educational Excellence Campaign:

$2.8 million: To create a permanent arts space for our students and faculty, providing expanded and enriched opportunities for our community to experience the wonderful world of the arts.

$2.2 million: To grow our endowment to nearly $5 million. Endowment is the hallmark of all outstanding institutions and secures permanently the school’s capacity to fund an educationally excellent program. Canterbury is committed to raising endowment funds for faculty and program development, as well as increased funding for student financial assistance.
