A Time for Celebration: The Canterbury Class of 2009

Class of 2001

Lindsey Barlow was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Class of 2002

Harrison Jobe was recently appointed the Opinion Editor for the Daily Tar Heel, UNC-Chapel Hill's student newspaper. He is working with Jessica Fuller ‘96 who is a columnist. This summer he interned as a production assistant on the Kojo Nnamdi Show at WAMU, DC's NPR affiliate.

Anna Hurd recently returned from a trip to Ecuador. The trip was part of her English/Spanish dual major requirements at Wofford College.

Class of 2003

Cole Gibson spent the summer in Orlando, FL interning with Possibility Pictures (creators of Fireproof) on their next feature, Letters to God. He worked with the casting director and as a Production Assistant and stand-in during filming. Cole is also featured in the movie as both a mailman and soccer coach. Letters to God will be released nationwide in the spring of 2010.

Hannah Michalove made the dean’s list at UNC-Wilmington.

Class of 2004

Carey Duda made the dean’s list at Wake Forest University.

Krissy Dull made the dean’s list at Lynchburg College.

Caroline Yates made the dean’s list at the College of William and Mary.

Class of 2005

Gregory Andia received the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica award at Page High School’s graduation.

Taylor Barker was named Most Valuable Player for Page High School Men's Varsity Lacrosse team, 1st Team All-Conference, 2nd Team All-Region, 3rd Team All-State, and Academic All-American.

Anneliesse Duncan will attend Dartmouth College in the fall where she has been awarded substantial scholarship money based on her academic performance. She received the Ruth and John (’52) Comer Athletic Scholarship during Grimsley High School’s Awards Program.

Hank Galbraith is moving to Utah to train for Olympic speed skating. He was recognized by the Science National Honor Society at Page High School’s graduation.

Taylor A. Greene was recognized by the Science National Honor Society at Page High School’s graduation.

Harrison Holbrook graduated salutatorian from Page High School. He received the following awards at graduation: the Hunter Byers Memorial Scholarship, the Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence award, the UNC-Chapel Hill Academic Award, the Brains and Brawn Award, the Margaret Garrett English Cup, the Science National Honor Society Award, the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, and the Buccaneer Outstanding Senior Award.

Katherine Johnston received the University of South Carolina’s McKissick Scholarship Award.

Michael Kattman will attend Belmont University, where he was awarded a scholarship. He also received the following distinctions during Grimsley High School’s graduation: the Dr. Thomas J. Penland Excellence Award, the Sara Mims (’23) English Award, and the National Merit Commended Student.

Emily Kronenfeld earned the following awards at Page High School’s graduation: the Iris Davis Hunsinger Journalism Cup and the Buccaneer Outstanding Senior Award.

Emily Lucas received Greensboro Day School’s Citizenship Award.

Christin Newman was recognized with the following distinctions at Page High School’s graduation: the Jaycees Most Athletic Senior Award, the Army Reserve Scholar Athlete Award, the Science National Honor Society, and the Buccaneer Outstanding Senior Award.

Charlie Robbins received the Hampden-Sydney Alumni Scholarship Award.

Phoebe Roer graduated valedictorian from Page High School. She received the following awards at graduation: the Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence award, the Brains and Brawn Award, the Science National Honor Society, the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, the UNC-Chapel Hill Academic Scholarship Award, the Outstanding Social Studies Student Award, the Buccaneer Outstanding Senior Award, and the National Merit Commended Student.

Eric Speckhard received the Glenn Vocal Music Award at Grimsley High School’s graduation.

Caroline Webb will attend the University of South Carolina where she received the McKissick Scholars Award, which includes scholarship money.

Class of 2006

Kyle Arnold was recognized with magna cum laude in Latin IV Poetry (AP) on the National Latin Exam.

Emilie Barker received a National Honor Society distinction and was inducted into the National Art Honor Society

Mary Baynard was recognized as a 2009 Junior Marshall (top ten students in junior class) during Grimsley High School’s graduation.

Richard Black was inducted into the National Honor Society at Page High School.

Tom Jackson was recognized as a 2009 Junior Marshall (top ten students in junior class) during Page High School’s graduation. He was inducted into the National Honor Society.

Sarah Kronenfeld was inducted into the National Honor Society at Page High School.

Rob Lovejoy was inducted into the National Honor Society at Page High School.

Anne Lucas was elected Greensboro Day School’s (2009–2010) student body president. She received the Kimberly Susan Bates Memorial Scholarship, which includes free GDS tuition for her senior year. This award is presented to the member of the rising senior class who: strives for academic excellence and for excellence in all other areas of life; values the learning experience; is active in those areas which are characteristic of the GDS motto, “Friendship, Scholarship, Sportsmanship,” community outreach and service, clubs and organizations, athletics, arts and leadership; displays those values characteristic of our Honor Code; and values cultural differences and global education. Anne is also a member of the National Honor Society and received a Citizenship Award.

William Morris was recognized with a Best Male Vocalist award at Greensboro Day School.

Kathleen Reittinger was inducted into the National Honor Society at Page High School.

Liddy Roer was recognized as a 2009 Junior Marshall (top ten students in junior class) during Page High School’s graduation. She was also inducted into the National Honor Society.

Andrew Walker was inducted into the National Honor Society at Page High School.

Haley Walker received the Youth Leadership Greensboro Award at Greensboro Day School.

Patrick Wrenn was recognized as a Furman Scholar at Greensboro Day School.

Class of 2007

Matthew Aronson had the highest academic average in his tenth grade class at Greensboro Day School. He also received a silver maxima cum laude distinction in Latin III on the National Latin Exam.

Caroline Smith received the Academic Excellence Award with highest distinction during Grimsley’s High School graduation ceremony. She received superior achievement in social studies, math, and Latin. She was also recognized as a Scholar Athlete.

Class of 2008

Jacob Smith received an award for being top Latin student in the freshman class at Grimsley last year.

Thomas Beard III was awarded The Successus Fidelitate Award upon the conclusion of his Freshman year at Christ School located in Arden, NC.  This award is presented to an underclassman in each grade level who, in the judgment of the faculty, have shown significant academic improvement, high personal integrity, strong motivation, and good citizenship.

Sarah Lucas received Greensboro Day School’s Citizenship Award.

Molly Hurd and Kendall Clark received their scuba diving certifications on a recent trip to the Bahamas.

Jennings Kuzmier won the Scott William Patterson (’08) Memorial Ninth Grade History Award. This award recognizes those students who have demonstrated a great love of history combined with the highest level of scholarly achievement.
