Jill Jones Named Director of Advancement

4 August 2010

Dear Canterbury Parents:

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying these final days of your summer vacation. The first week of August always constitutes the time when we begin to prepare in earnest for the beginning of the school year. Part of our preparation includes communicating with you about the start of the year. Thus, what follows are a few announcements that I would like to make about things going on at Canterbury School.

Director of Advancement

I am delighted to report that Jill Jones has accepted our invitation to serve as Canterbury’s Director of Advancement. Jill currently serves as the Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for Proehlific Park. Prior to this position, Jill worked in various sales and marketing capacities at Kindermusik International and AT&T/Lucent Technologies. Jill is a cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University, where she played on the varsity basketball team.

We were fortunate to have had a number of strong applicants for this position. We quickly identified Jill, however, as the best candidate. She possesses the personality, understanding, and relationships needed to do a great job in a position that will become increasingly important as we begin to launch a number of ambitious fundraising and campus development plans in the next few years.

Because of Jill’s longstanding ties to Greensboro, I know that many of you know her already, and I am sure that you share my enthusiasm in welcoming Jill to Canterbury as the newest member of our administrative team. She will begin work on September 1st.

Beginning of School Information

Our beginning of the year information packet, including class lists, will be sent by email later this week, and there are a couple of points worth mentioning in advance. You will see that we will be returning to a five-day schedule next year. The major change to this schedule relates to our Wednesday chapel services, which will alternate between a K-4th service one week and a 5th-8th service the next. This format, we feel, will allow us to craft a weekly service that appeals particularly to the ages of the students in attendance and relates to topics relevant to each group.

We are so excited about the return of our students, and we are looking forward to seeing them and you in the coming weeks. Please let me know if you have any questions

Very truly yours,
Burns Jones
Head of School

Funds raised for new playground

Canterbury School’s Monkey Bar Madness auction exceeded its’ financial goals, and in doing so, raised the money necessary to build a new playground and basketball court.

Many thanks to each and every one of our auction supporters for these positive results.

The event’s Co-Chairs, Harriette Knox and Mary Hale, worked especially hard with their committee to secure the new play equipment for our lower and middle school students.
