Founders Day is planned for October 28 and Doug Orr (uncle of Fraser Orr) will be the guest speaker.

Advancement Team is working on developing a Facebook Fan Page for Canterbury.

Kathleen Smith reported that the Marketing Committee has updated the school website with new features for Alumni News and more up to date calendar entries. Also working on interactive website for the school store so that people can purchase online.

There will now be two issues of the Canterbury Tales. One will be published in mid- January and one in August which will include the Annual Report.

Head of School Report- Burns Jones

Canterbury has started the official Admissions Season with a series of Open Houses. Enrollment is down slightly, as 14 students moved last year. Burns shared good news that the kindergarten numbers this year are very strong. Canterbury welcomed 60 new students this Fall. Parents are the greatest source of publicity for the school and Burns asked each parent to get involved in the process. A committee met to condense all of the great things about Canterbury into 4-5 "talking points." These were distributed at the meeting so that we are all sending the same message to prospective families.

Committee Reports-

Sally Foster- Kelly McKee reported that we had $13,000 in total sales with a profit of $6500.00. The profits will assist in the funding of the new playground. Online sales go on throughout the year so keep shopping! Sales prizes were announced in chapel.

Auction- Harriett Knox announced that the Auction would be held on Friday, March 19 and that Libba LaFave is in charge of the silent auction and Will and Blaine DuBose will be heading up the live auction. Please call them with ideas.

Shepherds Committee- Please let the committee know of prospective families.

Altar Guild- We will use A&A Plants again this year for the poinsettia sale. Look for Chatter announcements November 5 and November 12.

Book Fair- November 16-20. Replacing pizza night with a "booknic" this year. Families will have a chance to shop during the family picnic that week. There will also be an after hours shopping day on Thursday for parents who can't get to the booknic. Interested volunteers should contact Kim Derrick at kbderrick@triad.rr.com.

Care Committee- Daniela asked us to keep the following families in our thoughts and prayers: Burkhardt, Audilet, Warren, Durham, Edwards, Mount, Sarver, Yates, Noll and LaFave

Middle School Advisory Parents- Susan Moffitt reminded middle school parents the importance of volunteering. Please call her if you are interested.

Cookbook- Committee now has 19 members. Still trying to collect recipes and make it easy for parents to contribute. Planning a series of "kitchen ambushes" where committee members will show up at friends' houses with a bottle of wine and "demand" recipes.

Fall Social- Friday, October 16 at 7:00. This will be a super casual event with bluegrass music and lots of good food. Please come!

Green Committee- 5th grade is collecting aluminum cans for contest. Canterbury will win money for all cans turned in. Still collecting plastic bags and will do so all year. November 15 is "America Recycles Day."

New Family Committee- New families met as a group for coffee and all seems to be going well.

Parent Education- Anna Taylor will host a lecture entitled "Who is this person in my house?!?!" on October 29 at 7:00. Please plan to attend and hear ways to deal with the social issues your children are facing.

Parents' Page- Knox Barker distributed a yellow flier that reminds parents about distribution dates and instructions for submitting news to the Parents' Page. You may send any news or photos to knoxbarker@bellsouth.net.

Passive Fundraising- Wendy Enochs reported that we don't have final numbers for the Chick-Fil-A Night but there was a good turnout. The next one is scheduled for December 3rd. Please remember to send in BoxTops!

Planting Committee- Mr. Zappia's 5th graders are helping to water plants on campus.

School Store- Plan to be open during Book Fair and also one or two days in December for Christmas shopping. Sales are good this year.

Skateland- Scheduled for October 23rd and always need volunteers!

Teacher Appreciation- Fall Luncheon planned for October 22. Coffee Bar scheduled for first week of November.

Booster Club- Bonfire will be November 4th and will be a "spirit-filled night!" Bring picnic dinner and support Canterbury athletics.

Hospitality- Gearing up for three Admissions Open Houses on 10/20, 10/26 and 11/17. Founders Day is 10/28 and there will be a reception after the service. Please come! Attendance was low last year.

New Business-

Kim Smir reminded CPA about protocol when you have a need for faculty or staff involvement. Please go through Mary Winstead instead of contacting faculty/staff directly so that she can manage the requests. Kim also reminded the Board about the Artists' Reception honoring Greensboro artists Lisa Woods and Matt Mica on October 22 at 7pm in Stafford.

The meeting adjourned at 8:47 am.

Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Palmer
