Chapel Buddies
The Chapel Buddy program began in Canterbury's first year when the sixth graders
were located adjacent to the kindergarten classroom. To build a sense of community
between these two groups, each sixth grade student was paired with a kindergarten
student with the initial purpose of providing an escort and companion for chapel
services. The program has grown to include many other shared activities such
as reading, enjoying lunch together, and learning to do research. The activity
most enjoyed by the sixth graders is helping their chapel buddies write a letter
to Santa, which is then answered by one of Santa's "sixth grade elves." Canterbury
students tell us it is a special joy to have a chapel buddy and an even more
special joy to be a chapel buddy.
